Health in our Dogs and Puppies

Our dogs here at Riverbend Golden Retrievers complete the following health checks yearly or when needed as per our veterinarian;

  • Completed and current of the following vaccinations, Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza, Bordetella (aka Kennel Cough), Leptospirosis and Rabies.

  •  Annual veterinary examination, (check heart, ears, eyes etc). All of our dogs that we breed will have no history of skin allergies, seizures, or any known medical issues (serious or not). We strive for strictly healthy stock - no exceptions.

  • Hips and Elbows radiographed under anesthetic to rule out Dysplasia. (Dog must be completely anethetised to be completely relaxed in order to give the proper visual of hips/elbow joints - CANNOT BE DONE AWAKE). These radiographs will always be available to any interested, and there is a veterarian certification to go along with it. Please scroll below to see current radiographs of Otis and Wilma.

  • All dogs are on Revolution (Selemectin), monthly liquid application to prevent heartworm, treat for intestinal parasites, fleas, ear mites, ticks.

  • Yearly testing for heartworm, and all tick borne diseases. General Wellness screen is done on any dog 5 years and older, along with checking of thyroid function. (All done with Bloodwork).

  • All puppies born at Riverbend will go home with their first dose of Revolution, deworming 4x, first vaccines and examination, health booklet, microchip, and proper information regarding the health of your pup and the health guarantee.

Hip & Elbow Radiographs

These are our current radiographs and veterinarian certificates of both Otis and Wilma taken on Feb 5th, 2014. We have nothing to hide, so if you have any questions or concerns about the health of our dogs and you are interested in a puppy we suggest you call our vet, Dr.Donna Campbell from Rosecity Animal Hospital. We have a very close relationship with our veterinarian and Dr.Campbell and all the staff at the hospital have helped us and guided us along the way.

The illustration below shows what hip dyplasia looks like in dogs, it's a debilitating issue in the breed. If you'd like more information about hip and elbow dysplasia please do not hesitate to ask.
